Well, if this don't beat all. Some upstart Chippewa Falls coffee-shop-in-training-pants wants in on the West Central Wisconsin spoken word action. Nostrils flared, we ask, "WTF?"
Apparently "Higher Grounds" is some sort of sexy new coffee bean emporium/art galleria up yonder in Chip'wa Falls. And upon their entertainment calendar is an honest to god poetry slam. This hot, new development begs a completely obvious question: If we had a fight, who'd win?
Us. Don't be stupid.
There ain't no poets like Eau Claire poets, and we'd throw 'em up against Chippewa's finest any day of the week, Chuck. Except Monday. Monday is CSI Miami.
On top of an absolutely killer crew of writers, we've also got the Acoustic Café—Eau Claire's crazy-coolest coffee shop. Maybe Higher Grounds doesn't understand this. From the Higher Grounds website: "Upscale and trendy, Higher Grounds Coffee House delivers only the best."
The Acoustic Café response: "Except in poetry slams, yo. And baked goods. Our breadz n' cookeez is bistro-licious. Your mamma." Higher Grounds responds with a feminine gasp, raising a white-gloved hand to its dainty lips.
If you find yourself betting between the Acoustic and Higher Grounds, think about this: we seriously doubt Higher Grounds has near as many hippies on staff. Nuff said. And when it comes to sizzling super nova slam action, puh-leez. Running Water is where it's at.
Anyways, just kidding—this is actually pretty cool. More slams equals more chances to read your poetry. You guys should head over there with your best poems and attack the mic like it wuz candy.
