This morning, Eva fell asleep in the family room, so I grabbed the opportunity to take a shower. However, I left the fan off in the bathroom so I could hear a little better in case Eva started crying. You know, since she was all the way in the family room and all.
Evidently, our smoke detector is sensitive to steam. And evidently, when the fan in our bathroom is off, all the steam from the shower flows out into the hallway. The hallway where the smoke detector hangs. The hallway which happens to be visible from our driveway when the blinds in the living room are open, as they were this morning.
Also, it’s garbage day today.
Which explains how I ended up naked, dripping wet, fanning frantically with my hand at a screeching smoke detector, while trying to make soothing, long-distance “Mommy’s here, Pumpkin” sounds to my wailing infant, who I couldn't go to because I was huddled behind a wall in our hallway so the garbage man, who chose that exact moment to pull up in his truck to collect our trash, wouldn’t see me.
So. How’s your day going?
