Sorry for the long absence. The past week has simply flown by for me. As Eva gets more and more active (and sleeps less and less…) I’m finding the days go by so quickly. Unfortunately, when I have to make a choice of what to do with the hour or two I have to myself while she naps, writing a post for you all seems to lose out. I find myself trying to commit to memory all the small moments I want to write down and share with you “as soon as I get around to it.” Sigh. The more amazing she gets, the more I want to tell you, and the less time I have to do it in. Not. Fair.
I still owe you all a four-month report—and it’s coming! It’s coming! I promise. For now, though, I thought I’d share a few tidbits from the past two days at Casa de Paulus…
So, Eva’s been sick. My poor girl, she has a cold. The cold, however, hasn’t stopped her from playing like a maniac and drooling and snotting all over her toys. So yesterday I thought I’d take a couple of her favorites and sanitize them by giving them a little dip in some boiling water. Except I left them in a bit too long and Eva is now the proud owner of a set of lumpy teething beads and a slightly misshapen Chewy Bee. Yes. We call one of her toys Chewy Bee. I know. Adorable, right?
Strike one against my Mama skillz. (the z is for you, Mike)
Also Eva has been developing a bit of the cradle cap, which, if you’re unfamiliar, is a disgusting yellow patchy spot on her scalp that flakes off like giant dandruff. Yeah. So it just so happened that the Mommy email newsletter I get mentioned that if your babe has the yellow scalies, you might try rubbing a bit of mineral oil onto her scalp and then brushing it to loosen the flakes before washing her hair.
So I tried it.
Do you know how hard mineral oil is to wash out of a baby’s hair? Especially if you use too much? I lathered and rinsed twice before taking her out of the bathtub and she still woke up from her nap sporting this new ‘do:
Strike two.
I think if I mess up again this week the hospital may call and insist I return Eva to them. Oh, the learning process. Isn’t it fun?
